Internet Governance
European Community Panel of Participants (EC-POP)
Consultative meeting Brussels, 5 July 1999

INVITATION

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Interim Board has been constituted and its work has begun. Following the meeting organised by the Commission (DG XIII) in Brussels on 7 July 1998, almost exactly one year ago, it is time to review progress, report on developments and plan ahead. The members of the EC-Panel of Participants (EC-POP) that was set up following the July 1998 meeting have been playing an active role in the creation of the ICANN organisation and the development of its policies.

The ICANN Board met in Singapore in March 1999, Berlin in May 1999 and the next meeting of the Board and the related bodies is in Santiago, Chile, 24-27 August 1999. A further Board meeting has been scheduled in Los Angeles, California, 2-4 November 1999.

Consequently, the EC-POP and DG XIII will host an open meeting on Monday 5 July 1999 to give all interested parties an opportunity to get up to date on recent developments and contribute directly to the work that will be undertaken in the coming months. In particular it is important that the European participants in the Santiago meeting be aware of as much input as possible, including from those who will be unable to travel so far at that time of the year.

Speakers will include members of the interim ICANN Board, members of the EC-POP, representatives of Internet stakeholders in Europe and of the Commission.

There is no charge for participation, but all interested people should register in advance. Click here for a list of hotels (insert link) and for the Brussels Metro Map (insert link).

Any comments and suggestions on the proposed agenda should be posted to the list at: ec-pop@anwalt.de
